The Israeli made PR dissaster

The draconian use of force to stop a “humanitarian” aid flotilla from reaching gaza, that included a Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, two German MPs and many Brittons on board attracted vocal criticism of Israel’s conduct. Much of the world’s media covered the situation extensively and many powerful allys of Israel [...]

Opinion: Our tax system needs changes.

Opinion: Our tax system needs changes.

Say what you like about the Inland Revenue Department- I’m not the biggest fan of Tax. Then again, who is? Bloated Government in my opinion has held Sri Lanka back from realising its true potential, and too much collectivism has robbed Sri Lankans from the enterprenerial spirit out of which prosperous nations emerge. Sri Lankan needs [...]

Opinion: Reforms on Party funding rules

Cleaning up the party funding mechanism is among the greatest challenges modern Sri Lanka is facing. For too long the party funding issue been shrugged under the carpet and been conducted according to some old rules; no one allegedly follows nomore. This has ignited fears (probably scare mongering, or maybe not?) such as the pro [...]

Hope for change? Beware of getting short changed

Hope for change? Beware of getting short changed

Change vs. picking sides Hope is a word that means “bullshit” in the developing world. It has been overkilled by politicians whom we elected  for all the wrong reasons.  Hope, for me, is desire without a plan! I don’t actually believe that Gen. Sarath Fonseka is “believerble”? Or indeed he has the calibre to “change” anything [...]

Top 10 Reasons why I would have voted for MR

He won us the war, a war deemed un-winnable by everyone- was won outright! He deserves credit because he was the commander in chief at that time.. Despite mounting pressure he did not stop the war, and finished off a menace. He is a career politician and not a novice. For Good or for worse he is [...]

Why I love my school: Revisiting my favourite primary school essay topic

Why I love my school: Revisiting my favourite primary school essay topic

06 February 2010

“The Eton of Sri Lanka” the BBC has for once managed not to offend me. In fact I am quite flattered; as I too am an old boy of this amazing educational institution. I still remember my first day at Royal. Scared of the prospect of education I gripped tightly onto my black school bag [...]

Project: Improving the Freedom of Information in Sri Lankan Parliament

Project: Improving the Freedom of Information in Sri Lankan Parliament

30 January 2010

Ok let me make my intentions of this  post very clear… I wish to make a case for a Parliamentary TV Channel in Sri Lanka. I for many years have been frustrated with the fact that I have no way of seeing what happens inside the parliament. An ordinary citizen who is supposed to be represented [...]

Scenaio: coup’d Mahinda

Scenaio: coup’d Mahinda

24 January 2010

Results are announced and the people are in premature jubilation. As they look to the horizon with their eyes lit with the prospect of "believable" change, it is not the firecrackers deafen their ears; but bullets. Bullets being sprayed at innocents resisting the orders to keep calm! But how can they?

The Legacy of the Raj; ill-aristocrats

19 January 2010

Sri Lanka now a presidential representative democracy, used to be ruled under the commonwealth of Britain. During the British Raj, the established aristocrats were torn apart of their prominence, and was replaced by new era of pro-empire capitalistic feudalism. This was done partly due to the evangelical motives of the Raj and to balance out the rising influence of the independence movement which would eventually shake the very foundations of the ‘crown colony of Ceylon’ in 1948.

IT IS THE SOLDIER

19 January 2010

It is the Soldier… It is the Soldier, not the minister Who has given us freedom of religion. It is the Soldier, not the reporter Who has given us freedom of the press. It is the Soldier, not the poet Who has given us freedom of speech. It is the Soldier, not the campus organizer Who has given us freedom to protest. It is [...]

Project: Pleasure Peninsula A.K.A Jaffna?

08 January 2010

Firstly you can't ignore the sandy beaches of Jaffna and coral reefs that still lay unspoilt. Those will in the long run, provided that fear continues to be a thing of the past for Jaffna; attract good hotels and resorts to it's shores. That would Increase the productive potential of the 'jaffanese' economy and also boost the vital accomodation capacity of the city if it is to host a big event.
